Coach Mike Black is well-known to many StC Lacrosse players and families, having both managed and coached youth leagues and offseason travel teams in the area for many years. He is now affiliated with River City Lacrosse.
Like Head Coach Andy Thompson and Frosh-Soph Coach Rob Klemm, Coach Black is a St Charles High School graduate ('98) and a former StC Lacrosse player.
"Im sure that former StC Coach Dave Libby is proud to see Mike, Rob and myself all coming back to coach at StC after playing for him back in the '90s," says Coach Thompson. "Mike is another great example of a former player giving back to the program that helped give him his start."
After graduation, Coach Black enrolled at Minnesota State, where he was a two-year captain, a 2003 1st Team All-UMLL (Upper Midwest Lacrosse League) selection and 2nd Team All-American for the Mavericks lacrosse team.

Returning to the area after graduating in 2003, Coach Black began working with Lacrosse America, Finish Strong Indoor Sportsplex, Team Illinois and other organizations to help develop young lacrosse talent in the Tri Cities.
In 2007, he coached the Team Illinois Rising Stars to a NDP National Championship. Among his players were several current members of the StC Varsity, including Taylor Coughlin, Ben Dvorak, Chad Ellis, Dom Imbordino, Pat Killeen and Pat McGushin.
"Mike has a great rapport with players and parents," adds Coach Thompson. "Many of the guys on the team have known him since they were playing youth lacrosse in St. Charles. I have no doubt that Mike will fit in great with the program at StC Lacrosse." |
