North Stars score first and last,
but Stevenson scores more
In their tenth match of the season, the North Stars hosted the Stevenson Patriots, a non-conference opponent, on April 28.
StC drew first blood in the first quarter when Eric Koppang scored unassisted, but Stevenson came back with two. Neither team scored in the second quarter, and the North Stars were successful in negating two man-down situations.
The second half began with a Patriot defenseman advancing through the center and being rewarded with a goal for his effort. But the North Stars’ Dustin Sullens, Austin Cohen and Jake Hursh took charge and had a few steals, ground balls, and disruptive plays to keep StC within two, and goaltender Brian Robinson put an end to the third quarter with two significant saves.
Stevenson quickly attacked with four in the fourth quarter. StC would come back with two from Vika Zaderej. After a faceoff win by Cohen, Zaderej took a nifty pass from Koppang and tallied. The efficient Zaderej would then add another goal on his third shot of the game, this time assisted by John Fullem, in the waning seconds of the fourth quarter.
To be commended are: Sullens for his defensive hustle and team-leading five ground balls; StC’s face-off win improvements; and Robinson making 17 saves, devouring several which were partially screened or from close range.
