Down by three much of the game against North Carolina powerhouse Providence Country Day, the Varsity scored twice in 30 seconds to close to within one with 31 seconds left. But the Providence goalie turned away a potential tying shot with just seconds on the clock, and the top-ranked Chargers hung on for a 12-11 win. The loss evened the Varsity's Spring Break trip record at 2-2, with wins over Cape Fear on Wednesday (19-5) and North Mecklenburg on Friday (18-9) bracketed by defeats at defending state champ Charlotte Country Day on Tuesday (14-8) and at Providence on Saturday. But there was more to the week than lacrosse, as will be revealed in the coming days. Team photographer and Cruise Director Beth Ward captured much of the off-field moments, including the whitewater-rafting adventure, the Lowe's Motor Speedway tour, the chilly "beach games" on a windswept oceanfront, and more.
