The Varsity kept its unbeaten conference mark alive with a 9-2 victory over Wheaton Warrenville South under the lights in Wheaton on Thursday.
Thomas Feicco led the StC scoring with four goals and Conor Hamilton added a pair. Single scores came from Sean Brogan, C.J. Nemec and Dylan Ward. Goalie Sean McGushin saved eight shots.
Varsity Head Coach Andy Thompson identified three other key contributors to the varsity win, which moved the team's DuPage 2 Conference mark to 8-0 (9-0 DuPage 1 & 2) and its overall mark to 14-3. (The team has clinched the DuPage 2 title.)
"DJ Doherty led the team in ground balls with three, and also helped to initiate a clear that turned into a fast break goal," Coach Thompson said.
"Rob Quinn came away with a couple of very nice ground balls, and then kept his head up and made the pass upfield to one of our midfielders," he added. "Rob has done a very nice job in the last two games [Wheaton and Neuqua Valley] at one-on-one defense, scooping up ground balls, and getting the ball into the stick of one of our short poles."
Coach Thompson also noted the "great job done by Charlie Smunt of being active on the crease. By being so aggressive, he put himself into great positioning for two shots right in front of the net as well as drawing a penalty by a frustrated defender."
