About the Rangers:
From westsidelax.com
Dallas Jesuit had a breakthrough season last year, winning 14 more games than it had in 2006.
But last year's success will be extremely difficult to repeat after the Rangers graduated 14 seniors, including eight starters. Dallas Jesuit enters the 2008 season with two returning starters, both defensemen, and just six seniors on the varsity.
"We're a very, very young team," second-year head coach Chris Surran said. "We have a very large sophomore and junior class and quite a few freshmen will be on the varsity. We've got some talented kids, but they're very inexperienced. These kids need more experience, so hopefully by the end of the year we'll be as competitive as last year's team."
Dallas Jesuit will be led by junior defenseman Andy Ogden, junior defenseman Jory McVay and junior middie Sam Crain.
Surran described Ogden as a smart player who is fantastic on ground balls and plays strong position defense. McVay is tenacious and has a strong knowledge of the game, and Crain is a good dodger, good shooter and a powerfully strong player, Surran said.

Furious comeback bid falls in OT

On a windy Wednesday night in Dallas, the host Dallas Jesuit Rangers used crisp ball movement to jump out to a quick 4-0 first-quarter lead. But the StC varsity came roaring back to tie the game at 5-5 at half and set the stage for a thrilling overtime duel with Texas' fifth-ranked Division 1 team.
In the second half, the teams traded goals until the mid-fourth quarter, when Ben Dvorak's fourth goal and Chad Ellis's third goal put StC up 9-7.  The Rangers patiently worked the final two minutes to score twice and send the game into overtime, where a shot off a scramble at the crease with 0:19 left won the game, 10-9, for the Rangers.
After the game, the Rangers' coach singled out the varsity's physical play. After the first quarter, the StC defense largely stymied the Rangers attack and blunted its fast break, and Dallas Jesuit's scores came mostly from the perimeter and wings.
Besides Dvorak and Ellis's goals, single scores came from Sean Brogan and Alek Szmajda. Sean Brogan also tallied another three assists, with Ben Dvorak and Chad Ellis adding a single assist each. In goal, Sean McGushin had 13 saves.

Hats off to our 'trail bosses'

The Varsity's 2-1 Spring Break trip to Texas was a terrific week well spent in the Longhorn State.
The Club thanks organizers Dennis and Maureen McGushin and Gregg and Ann Dvorak for staking our trail southward,

and then riding herd once we got there. A cowpoke couldn't ask for a better bunch of trail bosses.
Thanks also to drivers Gary Campana, Jeff Forsell and Ray Ziegler, and to the many parents who cheered on the team (and joined in the fun).
