After a season as Assistant Varsity Coach, Coach Sean McCaffrey now assumes the leadership of the St Charles Junior Varsity.
Coach Mac, as he's known, helped guide the Varsity to its second straight Final Four finish in 2008. Now he is charged with developing a very promising group of underclassmen.
Coach Mac came to St Charles in 2008 from nearby Geneva High School, where he had served as Assistant Varsity Coach. Coach Mac helped lead the Vikings to a 10-10 season mark and second place in the DuPage 1 Conference, as well as into the second round of the 2007 Lacrosse Cup playoffs.
Coach Mac's ties to Geneva, like Coach Thompson's ties to St Charles, extend back to his high school playing days. There, he made quite a debut in his first and only season as a Geneva player.
"My senior year," he says, "player parent Tammy Marcozzi and I founded the Geneva Lacrosse Club. I was named Team Captain and was the leading scorer. I was also named MVP that year."
Coach Mac had played just a single year of high school lacrosse before that, and that was as a freshman at his previous high school, North Catholic High School in Pittsburgh.
"I made the varsity team as a goalie but eventually swtiched to midfielder," he recalls. "I also played basketball my freshmen year and we went 22-3 for the season."

Coming to Geneva to begin his sophomore year, he satisfied his love of lacrosse by playing in the Lacrosse America indoor leagues at St Charles Sportsplex. He also played at St Charles Sportsplex. He also played football his sophomore and junior year for the Vikings, as both a running back and cornerback.
Following his standout senior year on the lacrosse field, he returned to the Geneva sidelines as a coach for the JV and Frosh squads in the 2006 spring season.
When the season was over, he successfully walked on to the Saint Leo University D2 lacrosse team. But a back injury sustained soon after left him unable to play. "My playing days have been over ever since," he says.
Coach Mac is currently pursuing his degree at Northern Illinois University and, with JV Assistant Coach Nick Gatrel, recently opened Playmakers Performance Training in St. Charles, where they are already working with many Club players.
"For lacrosse players, our program covers strength training, speed agility and quickness, core training, lacrosse functionality, plyometrics and active isolated stretching," says Coach McCaffrey. "We've also developed sport-specific programs for athletes in hockey, football and baseketball."
