With barely a week of practice behind them -- and only one day outdoors -- the JV opened the 2009 StC season with a terrific 4-1 run in the 10th annual Icebreaker Lacrosse Festival in Louisville on March 14 and 15.
"I told the guys, I'm putting you to the test right away," says Head JV Coach Sean McCaffrey. "I knew mistakes and errors would be made, but that's exactly why we went to the Festival."
The team opened the Festival on Saturday in "a rainy mess" against St. Xavier High School, says parent Bob Haley. "The team knocked a lot of rust off in a sloppy game, but showed toughness and grinded out a 4-1 victory."
The squad fell short, 6-3, in its second game against the Louisville MALE High School varsity. But it was all good after that, says Haley, as the Club played with great balance to beat Trinity High School 7-2, a tough Ballard High School 5-2, and St. Francis High School 9-1 to finish up.
"I was very pleased with the overall performance, particularly since we just had that one outdoor practice," says Coach McCaffrey. "Most importantly, I think we had a lot of fun on and off the field." |
