St Charles JV Comes Close to Rocks Championship

Stingy defense, spectacular goaltending and steady scoring helped propel the StC JV into the Rocks championship bracket this weekend.
In those Saturday qualifiers, StC beat Marian Catholic 6-1 and Naperville North 7-3, and tied Waunakee 3-3.
True to regular-season form, the scores were closer on Sunday. Unfortunately, the Kardiac Kids came out on the wrong side of two one-goal margins.
In the championship semifinal, Benet beat St Charles 7-6. Then, in the 3rd-place consolation game, Culver Academy won an overtime thriller 5-4, after StC had roared back from a 4-1 halftime deficit.
"Our JV team played as well as I could have asked for during this two-day tournament," says Coach Andy Thompson.   "Though we didn't reach our ultimate goal of winning the tournament, we played some high-quality competition and did very well against it.  On the second day we were a minute and a half away from beating Benet and going to the Championship.
"Most importantly we learned some great lessons and never gave up during any game in this tournament.  This team hasn't given up once this season. And with this mentality, the team and I expect to win just about every game of the seven that are left on our schedule."
