The varsity has played some memorable games on the field turf of Grange Field at Wheaton Warrenville South. Just last year was the "three-man-down" game against the host Tigers, and an overtime loss to Eden Prairie (MN) as part of the Midwest Face-Off.
To this list we now add this wet, windy loss to the Minnetonka Skippers.
Down 4-2 at the first quarter, St Charles poured in four scores in the second quarter. After Cam Caruso had scored at 9:50, Tyler Chamberlain took the faceoff and tied the game at 4-4 with a strong rush down the middle.
The assist on Tyler's goal came from Conor Hamilton, who would then score three minutes later -- his first of five goals in the game. Thomas Feicco added his third goal of the game with 1:20 in the 2nd quarter to make it 6-4. Minnetonka rallied to score with :49 left, making it 6-5 at the half.
The third was almost all Minnetonka's, however, as the Skippers scored four unanswered to take a 9-6 lead. But then, with less than two minutes left in the third, StC went on its own four-goal run: Conor scored three times and CJ Nemec netted one, and at the 10:44 mark St Charles had tied it up at 10-10.
It was short-lived, however, as Minnetonka scored less than thirty seconds later to take the lead, and then scored again at 9:38 to go up two. Conor Hamilton would score again with 6:27 left to bring StC to within a goal, but 12-11 would be as close as StC would get. A last-second shot in front of the Minnetonka goal went just wide, sealing the Skipper win.
